APHASIA SPEECH AFTER STROKE STORIES &
THE INABILITY TO COMMUNICATE
Some people with aphasia speech are unable to speak at all, while
others can say words here and there, and then there are those
that can say phrases and sometimes a sentence. People with
aphasia speech understand everything that is going on around
them and . . . they CAN think. Those that are not familiar with
aphasia at all or maybe at some point have come in contact with
victims of aphasia, usually think that because they cannot talk or
talk correctly, they also have no thoughts. Well, they do have
thoughts and they can think, just as any of us can. Can you imagine
what it is like to be a prisoner in your own body?
I can't! The frustration . . . the anger . . . the loneliness . . .

When I here positive stories about a patient with aphasia I just beam
all over for them. It's their beginning on the outside, from within.
WOW . . . it's great! What an accomplishment it is, when they speak.
No matter what it is they say. It could even be a curse word . . . but,
at this point . . . it is the fact that they spoke and not what they said.
I can't even explain the joy . . . the wow . . . the gratification. And,
the smile on their face shows the first step to a huge challenge they
have ahead of them. God Bless Them! My heart goes out to each and
everyone of them. Don't ever give up . . . keep moving forward. One
word will lead to two and then three . . . then four and so on. I know,
because my son Shane is doing it! YES! YES! YES!
As I come across stories from victims of aphasia speech, I will post
